THE ICB BOOKSHELF
Here are some books we can recommend because we have them on our shelf. Two of these - Genetics of the Dog (Willis) and Control of Genetic Diseases (Padgett) are essential for dog breeders. If you are concerned about protecting the health of your breed's gene pool (and you should be!), the books by Sponenberg and Frankham are great places to start. The Genetics of the Dog (Ostrander & Rudinsky) summarizes the last decade of progress in canine genetic research. Isabell's genetics book is more recent than the ones by Willis and Padgett and worth adding if you have room for another useful book. DOGS (Morris) is a gem, providing useful information about the 1,000+ breeds of dogs in the world, not just the "recognized" breeds (but the illustrations are awful).
