Detection Dogs

The Russian airline Aeroflot wanted a superior explosive detection dog, so they bred their own by crossing dogs with jackals. They used Lapponian herders because they are easily trained and cope well with extremely low temperatures. When the crosses still proved difficult to train, they crossed in a few additional breeds, including husky, fox terrier, and a spitz, and they finally achieved a smart, independent working dog with a terrific sense of smell.
