NEWS

Breeding for the Future Program
ICB officially launched the Breeding for the Future program in June 2014, with the goal of assisting breeders in implementation of modern, scientific principles in their breeding programs. ICB is providing courses, written materials, computer simulations, and videos.

In addition to breed-specific groups that will be working to educate breeders and compile a global pedigree database back to founders, the ICB Health Chairs group will be working on developing strategies to keep breeders up to date with the latest research and veterinary developments, and also interfacing with the ICB DVMs and ICB Geneticists groups.

There are currently almost 100 breeds enrolled and more than 3,000 breeders participating through the Breeding for the Future Facebook group.

RESEARCH

Bankhar - First Report From the Field
From far afield in the Gobi desert, we have a post from Doug Lally, who is busy running down Bankhar dogs for DNA samples.

Looking for Poodle history
As part of the Poodle Project at ICB, we are trying to put together a comprehensive pedigree database that goes back to the founder dogs of the breed.  To our surprise, we've been unable to find that information, so we are putting out a global call for assistance.  You can read more here.
Major grant for Canaan Dog Genetics
ICB is pleased to announce that we have received a major grant from the Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc to support an analysis of the genetics of the breed.  The purpose of this project is to assess the current genetic status of the breed, and to provide information to breeders that will help them maintain genetic diversity into the future.  You can read more about the project here.
