Only a week after the debut of ICB, we are already forming the first group of breeders that are going to tackle the genetics analysis of their breed.
We are going to first compile the best pedigree information we can find for each breed. Then we compute some standard descriptive statistics that will tell us how the characteristics of the breed have changed over the years for which we have data - population size, sex ration, fraction of individuals that were bred, number and size of litters, coefficient of inbreeding, average relatedness, kinship, contribution of each founder to the current gene pool, etc. This information will help us evaluate the genetic health of the breed as a whole, the level of heterozygosity of each individual, and each animal's genetic relationship to every other dog in the population.
