So I'm pleased to direct you towards two excellent webinars sponsored by the UK Kennel Club and The Webinar Vet that are available free to view online. Both are given by Aimee Llewellyn, who is the Genetics, and Health Information Manager at The Kennel Club and each lasts about one hour. They were presented in July 2014, so the information is current as of that date.
These seminars are "MUST WATCH" videos for every breeder. I have provided the links below, and they are also now listed on the Videos page under the Resources tab on the ICB website.
Kudos to the folks at The Webinar Vet for providing access to this valuable information.
| AVOIDING INHERITED DISEASES - IT'S ALL IN THE GENES This is the first of two excellent seminars by Aimee Llewellyn, the Genetics and Health Information Manager at The Kennel Club, UK. This seminar covers some information resources available to breeders and owners on the KC website and an overview of "simple" genetic disorders, i.e., caused by a single autosomal recessive mutation. A must-watch for every breeder. |
AVOIDING INHERITED DISEASES - TACKLING COMPLEX DISEASES The is the second excellent seminar by Aimee Llewellyn, the Genetics and Health Information Manager at The Kennel Club, UK. This seminar tackles managing complex disorders and has an excellent overview of the meaning and use of estimated breeding values (EBVs). A must-watch for every breeder. |
